Since the beginning of mankind, the trees have provided us with two of life’s essentials, food and oxygen, Trees provided additional necessities such as shelter, medicine, and tools. Today, their value continues to increase and more benefit of trees is being discovered as their role extends to satisfy the needs created by our modern lifestyles.

Trees are important, valuable and necessary to our existence. It is too hard to believe that without trees we humans would not exist on this beautiful planet.

Trees clean air:

Trees help us clean the air and produce Oxygen. Trees cool the air by releasing moisture into the air. Heat from the sun is trapped in the atmosphere due to high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2). Leaves of tree absorb dirty air and remove pollutants and cool the atmosphere but now days the temperature of climate is increasing due to GREEN HOUSE EFFECT. Glaciers are melting due to climate change. Forests are disappearing. CO2 gas is increasing in the atmosphere and it is the cause of Green house effect. It is all due to cutting of trees on large scale...

Trees therefore act as carbon sink by removing the carbon dioxide CO2 and store it as cellulose in their trunk, branches and roots while releasing oxygen back into the air. Trees are the natural industries to create Oxygen.

A single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide CO2 at a rate of 48 lbs/year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support 2 human beings. Every person in the U.S.A generates approximately 2.3 of carbon dioxide CO2 each year. A healthy tree stores about 13 percent of CO2 annually.

An acre of trees absorb enough carbon dioxide CO2 over one year to equal the amount produced by driving a car 26.000 miles. Thus a car driven 26.000 miles will emit between 22.880 lbs CO2 and 27.447 lbs CO2

Energy savings

Trees save energy by shading buildings and minimizing the need for air conditioning in the hot summer months. Trees save energy as follows.

Save up to 30 percent of annual cooling costs,
Save 10-25% of energy used for heating
An additional 1 million trees strategically planted could save $10 million in energy savings.

Commercial Benefits.

Trees increase the value and add 1 percent to sales price, large specimen trees can add 10% or more to property values. Studies have shown that trees are good for business, shoppers will search for that one shaded parking spot on hot summer days and shops located in cool shopping districts see the influence of trees by.

More frequent shopping
Longer shopping trips
Shoppers spend more for parking
Shoppers spend 12 percent more for goods

A mature tree can have appraised value between $1000 and $10,000

Social and Psychological benefits:

Tress reduce levels of domestic violence and foster safer, more sociable neighborhood environment, views of nature reduce the stress response of both body and mind. Trees (along other plants) absorb high frequency noise which is the most distressing frequency rage for humans.

Trees bring people together, where neighbor-hoods are made stronger by the shady streets and parks. Trees cast shades in the evening that encourages resident to come out and enjoy walks and bike rides.

So we should grow and donate for trees because trees remove CO2 during photosynthesis to form carbohydrates that are used in plant structure/function and return oxygen to the atmosphere thus reduce greenhouse effect.

According to the estimation by the Forest Specialists, every country’s should have at least 25% forest, it is very important. In all over the World’s area 13063.90 million hectors are covered by Forests. Asia is the largest Continent in the world and it has 3084.76 billion hectors and out of this area only 547.79 billion hectors is covered by Forest which is 17.8.

Pakistan’s total area is 77.09 billion hectors but only 3.93 billion hectors area is covered by Forest which is 5.1 %. So the Environmentalists are urging to increase the Trees by 20%. Due to the lack of Trees in Pakistan, wood is becoming expensive and it is also the cause of Global Warming.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s area contains 27% Forests, NWFP contains about 13.8%, Sindh is about 4.8% and Balochistan is about 1% Forest. Punjab contains 20.63 billion hectors but out of this it has only 3.1 %. According to this estimations and calculation Pakistan needs Trees Plantation on War Basis.
